The numbers are dramatic, although you shouldn’t expect to hear it trumpeted on your evening news. It simply doesn’t fit the media’s narrative about “traumatized Latinos” and “crops rotting in the fields” that we heard all Summer long after Alabama’s Governor Bentley signed their tough immigration law H.B. 56.
What was really happening in all that time is nothing short of an economic miracle. As we reported last month, in the wake of tens of thousands of fleeing illegal aliens from Alabama, thousands of Alabamans were being hired – producing a sharp drop in the unemployment rate – particularly in comparison with neighboring states.
Then in October, after Federal District Judge Sharon Lovelace Blackburn upheld most portions of H.B. 56 – there was a second wave of departures of illegals from Alabama, who had stayed on in the hopes that the law would be blocked as it was in Arizona in 2010. This wave produced an acceleration in job creation, as the November statistics revealed.
The results speak for themselves – particularly in Marshall County, Alabama’s “known hotbed of illegal immigrant labor”, which had among the highest percentage of illegal alien workers in the state:
As state Rep. Wes Long, R-Guntersville, whose district includes part of Marshall County, said:
“Critics of Alabama’s crackdown on immigration have gone out of their way to claim this law somehow harms Alabama’s economy, but the facts continue to prove the opposite. There’s no question that cracking down on illegal immigration has had a positive effect on the economy, particularly in Marshall County.”
State Rep. Kerry Rich, R-Albertville, whose district also includes Marshall County, agreed:
“You can’t argue with facts,” Representative Rich said. “Since we passed a law cracking down on illegal immigration, communities in Marshall County have fewer citizens on the unemployment rolls and more citizens in jobs.”
These are facts. Cracking down on illegal aliens creates jobs.
Because the mantra of the open-borders crowd – that illegals “do the jobs Americans won’t do” – is a lie.
For every illegal with a job there is an American without one. And at a time when both parties in Washington, D.C. have no answers to our economic decline - Arizona-style immigration laws are the simplest and most effective way to put Americans back to work.
PLEASE CONSIDER A DONATION of $10.70 to Stand With Arizona in honor of SB1070, to help us continue to fight against illegal alien amnesty and push for Arizona-style enforcement laws nationwide: DONATE link. Thank you. |

A simple case of illegals doing jobs that Americans couldn’t do… because the illegals were doing them!!!
I’m not denying that the legislation had an impact on unemployment but how much of this drop is explained by people who have stopped filing for unemployment? I would like to know those numbers before stating that the unemployment dropped because of HB 56.
Excellent observation Jessica, I would bet very little if any of the drop had to do with HB56, much of it was NEW jobs due to increased demand in specific sectors.
I haven’t done research on this but, apparently you have?
….exactly which specific sectors are you speaking of?
Manufacuring – in paticular a new Hyundai plant was a significant contributer to new jobs in AL, as well as growth at auto manufacturing throughout the state. Additionally, medical and education. All the data is available thru the BLS and the Alabama dept of labor, which does not track agriculture employment, the sector which most illegals worked in.
I really think there ought to be a bounty on them, just think how much money a person could make here in Texas!!! We could all be rich within a week!!!!!
That’s easy, look at the surrounding states, they would work as the control group for your question since they stopped filing unemployment at approximately the same rate as Alabama but the unemployment rate didn’t drop. By the way, The Annointed One is taking credit for this drop in unemployment even though his administration sued to keep the law from going into effect. Typical hypocritical crap from D.C.
I live in Guymon,Okla. our small city of reportedly 15k is now abot 60 to 70% illegals working at Seaboard Foods, the largest pig processing plant in the world. And do u think the government checks this plce? Hell no too much kickback.
Steve, they are not “illegals” as you call them, you should be more politically correct and call them “Undocumented Democrats”. (I hope you can feel the sarcasm coming through your screen right now)
According to the online translator, the “no Hablo” above said something like – “They also are children of God and also have a habit as we EAT”
So Children of God are allowed to break the law and take food from those who are OBEYING the law?
So Children of God see nothing wrong with lying? Or stealing (both jobs and money from LEGAL Americans)
It is your responsibility to put food on your table… but NOT by breaking the law.
