‘Mr. Smith Goes to Chick-Fil-A’ (and makes a douche of himself).
An Arizona college professor and corporate CFO on Wednesday verbally abused a drive-through employee at a Chick-fil-A in Tucson, and then posted a video of the incident on YouTube.
Adam M. Smith, an adjunct professor from the University of Arizona – Tucson (Eller School of Management), described himself in the video as “totally heterosexual” without “a gay in me” who believes that Chick-fil-A is “a horrible corporation with horrible values.”
Smith ordered only water from the restaurant in an attempt to “take a little bit of money from Chick-fil-A” so “less money [goes] to hate groups.” Smith proceeded to belittle the attendee asking how she managed to live with herself.
At one point during the conversation, Rachel, told Smith she was “uncomfortable” with his filming but he persisted.
“People have to have their Chick-fil-A… anti-gay breakfast sandwich,” he said, reflecting on his decision to order a free water. “Always tastes better when its full of hate.”
Tens of thousands of Arizonans ate at Chick-Fil-A’s across the state yesterday to show solidarity with their values, and to oppose efforts by big city mayors to ban them.
A spokesperson for the University of Arizona would not comment when SWA called them to do so.

Smith works at the Eller School of Management at U of A. The Dean is Len Jessup. You might want to remind him that part of teaching business management is public relations. And generally, published a video on YouTube berating a courteous teenager with political propaganda is not very smart P.R., nor reflects well on the University. UPDATE: Mr. Smith has been fired by Vante, his employer after national outrage by Americans stunned by his treatment of the courteous and respectful teenager, telling her “I don’t know how can you live with yourself” for working for a “hateful company”. No comments as of yet from the university of Arizona as to whether Smith will be reprimanded for his behavior. The statement from Vante is here:

He talks about Hate Groups. Let’s NAACP would be one as they love a Terrorist Name Lincoln who hated them. Let’s see NEA who hate males and those who have Morals and Ethic. They dare to be Christians. Let’s See Acorn who hate American Values. The U.S. Goverment who hate American Values. Especially their duty to uphold the Constitution. They hate Indians and anything not part of the “Master Race”. He talks about Hates Groups. I am willing to be he belongs to many down there. He even looks like he belongs to LaRanza or Mecha. That is the biggest ones in that area. Wow So much Bashing against true American Values. He needs to be fired and thrown out of the Education System no matter if he has Tenure or not.
Isn’t this a free speech issue as well? I am no way taking up for this guy. He is a Dbag for going and venting at some poor young girl working the counter who has no power to change CFA stance on anything. But Dbag speech is free speech. And was it right for this blog to post his personal information and his boss to fire him just because he expressed an opinion? If you believe it was wrong (and I do) for the mayors of the cities to try and limit CFA business over the personal opinion of the owner shouldn’t you believe it to be wrong to fire the guy over his personal opinion? We can all still have opinions, and voice them, but has any of this changed anyone’s stance on the issue? Not really. We have a country in a huge financial crisis right now that we should put our energies towards and to me this is a distraction that just further divides the country.
As Arizonans we were outraged by his disgraceful conduct. And as AZ taxpayers we paid his salary at U of A. So we are supposed to just ignore what he did while representing a state school? No way. Sorry if you found it to be a ‘distraction’. We can walk and chew gum at the same time.
He was not representing the school or Vante that just happens to be the places he worked. Looked like to me he was on his lunch hour. He did not curse or threaten. He just stated an opinion, all be it misplaced. If Dan Cathy can express his free speech opinion then why can’t this guy? We have to be consistent. The young girl, to her noteworthy credit, did a great job in letting him say his piece and move on. We should too. That is the problem with these social issues. They become a huge battle that gets everyone emotional.
