How many more Americans killed by illegal aliens will it take until our nation’s leaders finally act?
The photo above is of Aileen Smith holding the lifeless body of her son. Aileen and her husband Zach were traveling along Interstate 25 in San Miguel County, N.M., when a car driven by Ramon Hernandez, 43, collided with their vehicle. Aileen Smith suffered severe contusions to her midsection as well as a broken sternum. She was seven months pregnant with the couple’s first child.
She was taken to Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center in Santa Fe where doctors performed a C-section in an attempt to save the baby. But the injuries to the unborn child were too severe and he died only minutes after being delivered. The baby died from a massive head injury and blood on the brain, according to a coroner’s report.
“There was nothing they could do,” Smith told The Albuquerque Journal. “I woke up from surgery and was reaching out asking for my son, and the nurse leaned over and told me that he had passed.
The Smiths named the boy after Aileen’s grandfather, Demetri.
They were on the way to a baby shower for Aileen when they were struck by Hernandez. The funeral was held only two days before Aileen’s 26th birthday.
Hernandez – an illegal alien from Mexico – has been charged with homicide by vehicle DUI, great bodily harm by vehicle, driving under the influence, reckless driving, driving while license is suspended or revoked, and driving on roadways laned for traffic.
According to the New Mexico authorites, Hernandez was convicted of DUI twice in 2000, once in 2003 and once again in 2004. He was also driving on a revoked license at the time of the crash due to multiple unpaid traffic tickets. He has pleaded not guilty.
Hernandez is currently being held on a $25,000 cash-only bond as well as an Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainer.
New Mexico is one of only two states (Washington) which issues driver’s licenses to illegal aliens. Despite numerous attempts by Gov. Susana Martinez to overturn former Gov. Bill Richardson’s disgraceful law granting licenses to illegals, and despite overwhelming public support, the Democrats who control the N.M. Senate have repeatedly blocked any attempts to repeal it.
Numerous reports have shown massive fraud committed by out-of-state illegals, organized crime, and foreign nationals from terror-sponsoring nations to obtain licenses – and thus gaining a legal foothold in other states.
And what of Federal authorities? This criminal alien was never deported, despite his FOUR prior DUIs. The case brings to mind the killing of Sister Denise Mosier in Virginia in 2010 – just months after ICE issued their first guidelines stating “prosecutorial discretion” in the handling of illegals. Her DUI killer, illegal alien Carlos Montano, had been arrested 3 times for DUI, yet was released by ICE and even given a work permit in 2010 by DHS.
This insanity must end, and it only will if we change the leadership in Washington on November 6th.
